AMITE, LA (WVUE) - Amite Police officers are investigating a shooting that left a 27-year-old man dead. The incident occurred Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the 400 block of NW Central Avenue. The victim has been identified as Joshua Lee.
According to police, the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Jermaine Williams was inside a store in the 400 block of NW Central Avenue. In the parking lot of a neighboring building, the victim was speaking to his girlfriend who just drove up in her car.
Shortly thereafter, Williams walked out of the store and saw Lee and Lee's girlfriend talking next door. Williams drove over to the neighboring parking lot and began arguing with Lee. Williams then pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and shot Lee five times, police say. Lee was pronounced dead on the scene.
Responding officers arrived and found Williams still on scene. He was taken into custody. He will be charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted second degree murder. Police say that the girlfriend's car was struck by two bullets, while she was still inside the vehicle.
After questioning witnesses, detectives learned that the suspect and victim are neighbors and an ongoing feud may have lead to the shooting.
