NOPD: Man wanted for armed robbery in Lower Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans Police are searching for a man responsible for an armed robbery that took place in the Lower Ninth Ward. The incident occurred Sunday at 2 p.m. at the intersection of North Dorgenois Street and Caffin Avenue.

According to police, the victim was playing basketball with family members when the suspect approached them and demanded the victim's car keys. The victim said that his debit card fell out of his pocket as he was pulling his keys out. As the victim handed his keys over, he was told to also hand over the debit card.

The suspect took the keys and debit card and fled in the victim's car. Police later recovered the vehicle in the 7700 block of North Coronet Court.

The suspect is described as an African American man, 20-25 years of age who is 5-foot-7, weighing around 140 pounds with a short hair style. He was wearing a black V-neck t-shirt, blue jeans and gray Nike sneakers. He was armed with a rusty semi-automatic pistol.
