NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Copa Airlines has begun nonstop service four times a week between Copa's Hub of the Americas at Tocumen International Airport in Panama and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
It's the first direct flight from New Orleans to any Latin American country, according to Copa.
Copa will offer direct flights four times a week with an average travel time of about three hours. From Panama, passengers can directly connect to 55 destinations.
"Copa's New Orleans-Panama service will bring all of Latin America closer than ever before for Louisiana business and leisure travelers," said Fernando Fondevila, Commercial Regional Manager for Copa Airlines for North America. "We're proud to provide the only nonstop service between New Orleans and Panama, as well as unsurpassed connectivity to destinations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean."
New Orleans is the airline's 11th U.S. destination and its 71st overall. Established in 1947, Copa Airlines transported more than 11.6 million passengers in 2014.
