NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The state Attorney General's Office arrested a fugitive for numerous sex crimes with a child. He was captured in New Orleans.
Authorities in Tennessee were searching for Roman Bates, 56, of Baton Rouge, for the rape of a child, sexual battery, aggregated sexual battery and aggravated statutory rape.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and the Baton Rouge City Constable's Office assisted the Attorney General's Fugitive Apprehension Unit with the arrest.
"We work cooperatively every single day with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to track down wanted criminals. These fugitives should recognize that Louisiana is no safe haven for them," Attorney General Buddy Caldwell said.
Officers booked Bates into Orleans Parish Prison on Tuesday. He is waiting to be transported to Tennessee.
