HOUMA, LA (WVUE) -

The Terrebonne Parish Council has nominated a new police chief for the city of Houma.

"My selection for, and my recommendation for police chief that needs to be held for two weeks before confirmation - and no, Dana, you cannot write chief of police on your e-mails yet - is gonna be it. Dana Coleman. Congratulations."

Dozens of police officers attended last night's Council meeting in support of Coleman, who will be the first black police chief in Houma's history.

Coleman is expected to be confirmed during the next meeting on July 8.
