NOPD: Teenager's gun jams; now wanted for aggravated assault

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police have named a suspect in an attempted shooting involving a 16-year-old boy.

Demontre Smith, 17, is accused of trying to shoot the other teenager after an argument in eastern New Orleans.

Investigators said Smith and the other boy had a verbal altercation in the 7200 block of Yorktown Drive around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

During the argument, Smith allegedly pulled out a small caliber pistol from underneath his clothing and pointed it at the victim. The pistol jammed when he pulled the trigger, police said. Smith ran away after the incident.

He is wanted for aggravated assault with a firearm. The investigation is ongoing.
