WASHINGTON, D.C. (WVUE) - Lee Zurik and the FOX 8 investigative team received two prestigious Sigma Delta Chi awards for their work Friday night in Washington, D.C.
The Society of Professional Journalists honored them with the award for Best Investigative Reporting for the series of reports called "Downfall of a Dynasty." It centered on former St. Tammany and Washington Parish District Attorney Walter Reed and resulted in an 18-count indictment.
Lee also won Best Documentary for his "Holding Officials Accountable" series that examined the questionable practices and use of public money by a non-profit agency, a Second Court constable and others.
The stated mission of the SPJ is to promote and defend the First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and freedom of the press; encourage high standards and ethical behavior in the practice of journalism; and promote and support diversity in journalism.
