STPSO: New Orleans man arrested for breaking into ex-girlfriends home

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Department arrested a New Orleans man for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Slidell home. The incident occurred Sunday, just after 8 p.m. on Marlowe Court in the Kings Point Subdivision.

Police say that neighbors called police, saying that they heard gunshots. Responding officers found 37-year-old Percy Smith outside of his ex-girlfriends home, suffering from gunshot wounds to both legs.

After further investigation, detectives learned that Smith arrived at the home, uninvited. When the woman noticed Smith outside her home, she locked the doors and armed herself with a gun.

When Smith realized he would not be allowed in, he broke in through a back door. Once inside the home, Smith began struggling with the woman. Multiple shots were fired from the gun during the struggle, one of which hit Smith in both of his legs. The woman then ran from the home, before deputies arrived on scene. Deputies found Smith in possession of the woman's wallet.

He was brought to University Hospital in New Orleans to receive treatment for his wounds. He was treated and once released, he was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count of aggravated burglary. The investigation into the incident continues.
