Slidell mom jailed after child nearly drowns

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - The mother of a 14-month-old has been arrested for cruelty after the boy was found unresponsive in an inflatable pool earlier this month.

Natashia Allen, 33, was booked June 23 with second-degree cruelty to juveniles and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. She was booked into the parish jail without incident.

On June 3 at about 5:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Kepler Court in Slidell after someone called 911 to report the incident. The child was rushed by ambulance to Ochsner Medical Center Northshore and later transferred to Ochsner Medical Center's main campus in New Orleans.

Detectives and Crime Lab technicians were called to the scene of the incident, and over the course of their investigation determined that Allen, was inside the home for about 25 minutes while the child was left in the pool without adult supervision. The child nearly drowned.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services are conducting their own investigation into the incident.

The child has been transferred to Children's Hospital and remains under medical care. Additional arrests and/or charges have not been ruled out.
