Coroner identifies victim in New Orleans East triple shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 25-year-old man is dead and two others are injured following an early morning shooting Monday in New Orleans East.

Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffery Rouse has identified the deceased as Michael Spikes, 25.

The shooting happened just after 12 a.m. Monday morning in the 4600 block of Alcee Fortier Boulevard near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway.

New Orleans police say that the three victims, two men and a woman, were sitting inside of a silver sedan when the shooting happened. The car was parked in the parking lot of a strip mall when a second vehicle drove up and opened fire on the sedan, police say.

The victims ran out of the vehicle and collapsed on nearby Chef Menteur Highway.

Officers arriving on the scene found Spikes dead in the street.

Two other victims were found nearby. A male victim was transported to the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to the back and arm, police say. His condition is unknown at this time. Police say the female victim was grazed by a bullet. Her injuries are non-life threatening.

Officers say a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Investigators are in the process of interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
