NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans police say a stranger raped a 7-year-old at the Hidden Lake Apartment complex on Martin Drive Wednesday night.

The girl's mother believes a young man lured her daughter away with the promise of a frozen cup, then took advantage of her twice in the short time span.

"This my baby and I don't want him to hurt no other little girls," she said. "We went to the hospital. It's real. She's not going to lie. She knows how he looks and everything."

FOX 8 is not identifying the mother to protect the child's identity. The mother said around 9 p.m. she was playing with her daughter and a group of kids outside their apartment in a courtyard. She says she turned her back for just a moment and that's when the man preyed on her child.

Surveillance video shows the suspect allegedly luring the child away from the complex.

"She was gone. We came back out looking for her, and she came back like 10 minutes later, she came screaming he raped her," she said.

"For a 7-year-old, for her to say the things she was saying was unbearable. It really was. He did her some things," the girl's aunt said.

The family says they have a good idea of what the young man looks like even though they've never seen him in the neighborhood before Wednesday.

"He looked like he was about 16,17 years old, brown skin, dark, short, short hairstyle - maybe a fade or low bush. He had on a red and white jacket with a red shirt and blue jeans," the aunt said.

Anyone with information that can help police identify the attacker is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
