Arrest made in murder of 20-year-old woman

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The man accused of killing a 20-year-old woman in Gentilly Friday night is in police custody.

According to NOPD, police arrested 20-year-old Will Reed during a routine traffic stop on I-10 West near Read Boulevard. Police believe Reed is responsible for the murder of a 20-year-old woman, July 3 on Broad Street. Our Partners at Times-Picayune report that the woman killed is Milan Arriola, the daughter of an NOPD officer and NOFD Captain. She is also musician Kermit Ruffins niece.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Humanity and Allen Streets on July 3 around 8 p.m. When they arrived on scene officers learned that there was a woman down the road at Broad and St. Bernard that had been shot. That woman turned out to be Arriola, who police found in the passenger seat of a yellow Chevrolet Camaro with multiple gunshot sounds to her body.

According to NOPD, a dark colored sedan with several people inside pulled up beside the car Arriola was riding in and opened fire at the corner of Humanity and Allen Streets. The driver in the car with Arriola continued to drive, but the car gave out due to damage at the corner of Broad and St. Bernard. That's where police found Arriola. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died.

During the course of the investigation, detectives positively identified Reed as the suspect who killed Arriola. The next day, an NOPD officer conducting a routine traffic stop on I-10 West spotted Reed in the passenger seat of the car he pulled over.

The officer arrested Reed without incident, but police say he is refusing to answer any questions. Reed is now in Central Lock-up, charged with Second Degree Murder.
