OPSO deputy booked with aggravated assault, fired

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - An Orleans Parish sheriff's deputy faces a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Paul Sylvester's arrest involves three separate incidents in different parts of the city, one of which was caught on cell phone video/ (Mobile users can see the video here: http://shout.lt/7gQv)

He faced two counts of aggravated assault four years ago, but prosecutors did not pursue those charges.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office released the following statement:

Based on an administrative review, the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office suspended and then terminated Deputy Paul Sylvester following his arrest over three separate incidents overnight.

Details of those incidents are under investigation by the New Orleans Police Department,

Sylvester, who was employed for five years, was booked into OPSO's Intake and Processing Center this afternoon on one count of aggravated assault.
