Suspect arrested in fatal French Quarter shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A suspect has been arrested following an early morning shooting in the French Quarter.

William Richardson IV, 23, was arrested Thursday just hours after the shooting in the 900 block of St. Ann Street. The incident was reported around 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

Officers arriving on the scene found a man shot in the driver's seat of a black 2006 Ford Mustang. The victim, identified only as a male, was shot in the jaw area, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Two passengers were also in the vehicle, police say. Neither passenger was hurt. Both were detained and questioned regarding their involvement in the incident.

During the course of the investigation, detectives say they were able to determine that the victim and his 30-year-old friend were attempting to purchase drugs from Richardson. Once inside the vehicle, police say Richardson attempted to rob the pair, at which point he fired once, striking the victim.

Richardson and the 30-year-old male struggled inside of the vehicle until police arrived.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
