Houma man arrested after police spot him in stolen car

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) -

A Houma man was arrested Wednesday after police spotted him in a car that had been reported stolen earlier that day.

Shortly before 10 a.m., Houma Police received a call from a woman in the Maple Street Park area in who said that her black 2007 Dodge Ram pickup was missing.

Houma Police searched the area and found it occupied by two individuals coming off the Main Street overpass. A brief pursuit ensued through the east side of Houma until the driver, identified as 27-year-old Kerry J. Pitre Jr. of Goaux Avenue drove into a field off East Street, where he was caught.

Pitre was arrested for auto theft and aggravated flight from an officer. Houma Police also learned that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for child support. He was transported to the jail and was booked.

The passenger, who has not yet been identified, jumped out of the vehicle during the pursuit and fled the area on foot. He was described as a black mal, possibly with twists in his hair. Officers believe he may have sustained some type of injury.  Anyone with information is askedto  contact the department or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers.

Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
