'Waddle it be?' Audubon Aquarium reveals gender of newest penguin

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Is it a boy or a girl?

The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas revealed the gender of its newest penguin, Chicory, today.

So what is it? We won't ruin the surprise. Click the video above to see the big reveal!

Chicory was born on April 23 and has been nesting with its parents, Millicent and Puddles in the Audubon Aquarium's penguin exhibit. Visitors can see Chicory and family  by stopping by the Penguin Exhibit at the Audubon Aquarium or viewing Animal Planet L!VE's PENGUIN CAM where they can tune in for live feedings daily at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. CST.

The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas has raised 52 chicks since it opened in 1990 and is currently home to 40 African blackfooted penguins and three southern rockhopper penguins.

The aquarium is a Specials Survival Plan breeding facility, working to build a genetically-diverse population to ensure the survival of threatened or endangered species. Hence why the gender of newborn penguins is so important.
