HAPPENING TODAY: Confederate flag to be removed from SC Capitol grounds, could spark change across America

Confederate flag to be removed from SC State House grounds

The Confederate flag will be removed from State House grounds in South Carolina on Friday morning. The flag will be sent to a museum.

After a whirlwind debate among S.C. lawmakers to pass the bill removing the flag, Governor Nikki Haley signed the bill saying the flag will be taken down with dignity.

The flag will be removed at 10 a.m.

Police continue to investigate fatal 9th Ward shooting

A 25-year-old man is dead following a shooting in the Lower 9th Ward.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of St. Claude Avenue. Officers first received reports of a man down on the sidewalk.

Officers arriving on the scene found an unresponsive victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Emergency crews attempted to revive the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has only been identified only as a 25-year-old man. His name has not been released.

Cooling showers possible Friday

As a ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the area, rain coverage is going to remain limited.

Models indicate a slight increase in our chance for showers Friday at around 30-40 percent.

This weekend, the high moves westward and centers more over Louisiana for a time, increasing temperatures to the mid 90s.

Heat indexes will near or exceed 110 degrees for an hour or more. It will be mostly dry next week with an occasional pop-up shower, but coverage will be less than 20 percent.
