NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating the drowning of a 29-year-old man in Lake Pontchartrain. The incident occurred Sunday around 8:36 p.m. in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Drive.
Police say that the man's body was later located by the New Orleans Fire Department around 9 p.m.
Officers believe the victim was on a boat with family and friends all afternoon. At some point, everyone got out of the boat to swim. When they returned to the boat, family members realized the victim was not there. The body was later discovered away from the area where the group was swimming. Police say the victim did not know how to swim.
His identity has not been released. The investigation is ongoing. Police are waiting for the coroner's office to determine the exact cause of death.
