Man arrested in Marigny hit-and-run of cyclist

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A 45-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a bicyclist in the Marigny.

Curtis Joseph Turner faces one count of manslaughter and one count of felony hit-and-run in the death of 37-year-old Benjamin Gregory.

On July 7 at around 10:25 p.m., Gregory was traveling lake-bound on his bicycle in the far right lane near the shoulder of Elysian Fields Avenue near Royal Street when he was struck by a black Pontiac Vibe. Gregory died on the scene.

During the course of the investigation, detectives received a Crimestoppers tip that led investigators to the vehicle that allegedly hit Gregory. Detectives located the vehicle last week in the 2700 block of Delery Street. Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives identified Turner as the suspected driver.

Turner surrendered to police Monday evening.

Fatality Investigator Anthony Pontiff is in charge of the investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-6208.
