LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - A 5-year-old boy crawled through a small opening in his grandmother's window air conditioning unit, deputies say, letting his father inside to burglarize the home.
Anthony Wilson, 30, and Casey Ramsey, 27, were arrested on Monday. The couple is accused of burglarizing the home of Wilson's mother in LaPlace.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Criswell Court in LaPlace, LA. The homeowner alerted authorities of the burglary after finding her air conditioning unit damaged.
Officers arriving on the scene found an accordion spacer on the side of the air conditioner pushed in. The opening was too small for an adult to fit through, deputies say, but it was big enough for a small child. The homeowner told deputies she suspected her son might have been the perpetrator. His 5-year-old son (the victim's grandson) was small enough to fit through the opening, the victim told officers.
Witnesses told St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff's deputies that a man and young boy were seen leaving the residence. The pair allegedly walked down the street to a gold vehicle with an out-of-state license plate, witnesses told deputies. The description of the man and car matched that of the victim's son.
Officers say they made contact with Wilson, Ramsey and their 5-year-old boy at their residence.
During the investigation, officers say the son confessed to the burglary. He allegedly confessed to using his young son to unlock the door. When the door was opened, police say an alarm was activated and the pair fled the scene.
Wilson was booked with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, simple criminal damage to property and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. His bond has not been set.
Ramsey was booked with principal simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, principal simple criminal damage to property and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Her bond has not been set.
The grandmother took temporary custody of the boy.
