Woman narrowly escapes hold-up at Covington ATM

COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's detectives are looking for a man who attempted to rob a woman while she was using a Covington-area ATM Wednesday night.

The woman was making a deposit at a drive-up ATM outside a bank on Louisiana Highway 21 when a man approached her vehicle from the rear and positioned himself between the open driver's side window and the ATM.

The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, grabbed the victim's arm through the open window and demanded cash from her. The woman managed to speed forward in her vehicle to escape unharmed, then call 911.

The suspect fled south on foot toward the rear of an adjacent business.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-25 years old with a medium build and a medium complexion. He had shoulder-length skinny dread locks that appeared to have been dyed a light color. He wore a light-colored shirt with a black knit cap pulled over his face.
