At around 2 p.m., 911 dispatchers received multiple calls of gunfire in the area of Bienville and Basin streets. When officers arrived, they found multiple bullet casings on the ground and a black Nissan Altima with multiple bullet holes in the 100 block of North Roman Street.
Surveillance video shows what looks like a young teen firing a semi-automatic pistol with an extended clip at a dark-colored car.
"Fifteen-year-old kid it looks like, shooting with a clip on a pistol running," said business owner Sal Palmisano. "And then they went another 10 blocks away or something like that."
No one was injured in the incident.
"About 12 shots about 5 feet from the front door," Palmisano said. "You can see the smoke coming out of the guns. It was pretty ridiculous. Just another day here. It's not good for business."
Police are currently looking for the suspect.
"We are not going to tolerate anything like this occurring," said NOPD Lt. Keith Sanders. "We are going to try to bring these suspects to justice as quickly as possible."
Palmisano, however, questioned the city's priorities.
"It's pathetic," he said. "We're worried about statues and we've got this going on. I don't think the statue was involved in this, and it's not going to be about statues it's about getting these kids off the street."
