NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police arrest a teenager for the rape of an 8-year-old girl.
The NOPD says they arrested a 13-year-old boy and booked him for aggravated rape Friday. Investigators say his DNA was already in their system and they were able to match it with DNA evidence collected from the scene. Now, detectives say they're looking into whether that 13-year-old suspect could be responsible for similar incidents in the area.
Police say the suspect lured the 8-year-old victim from a New Orleans East apartment complex on Downman Road last Friday and raped her in an alley. We talked with neighbors Friday night who say they're relieved police made an arrest. Especially, one mother who says she can now let her little girl play outside again.
"We were on edge, we had to keep the kids inside, no one could come out and play, so, you know, this is a very big relief, a strain off of everyone in the apartments, so, we're very grateful,"GiGi Blunt said.
The rape of the 8-year-old victim was the second rape of a young girl in New Orleans east in less than 2 weeks. Police released surveillance video earlier this month of the man they believe raped a 7-year-old girl at the Hidden Lake apartment complex on Martin Drive. The NOPD says that case is still unsolved at this time.
