NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Part of an iconic New Orleans street is re-named after a well know pastor.

Carondelet Street between Felicity and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. is now Robert C. Blakes, Sr. Drive.

Many gathered outside New Home Ministries Sunday for the dedication ceremony. The renaming honors the late pastor’s life, who did so much for the community.

"One philosopher said that a real leader or a great leader is one who takes a vision and makes it a reality,” said Lois R. Blakes, the widow of the pastor. “And that's what [Blakes] did. He took a vision and made it a reality."

Blakes founded New Home Ministries on Carondelet. He passed away in 2013.
