NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - If you normally take the Highway 11 bridge to and from Slidell, it is back in service. The bridge was shut down last week for emergency repairs.
Engineers at the state's transportation department said there was a mechanical issue with the draw bridge not closing properly.
The bridge has been open since Friday afternoon.
There is a different story for drivers in Plaquemines Parish. They should keep an eye out while driving on a portion of Highway 23.
The parish tweeted pictures Sunday of Highway 23 northbound, near Fort Jackson, which buckled.
The state department of transportation blames heat, causing the roadway to give way.
The road is still passable for commuters in the area.
DOTD said that repair work on the roadway started last night.
