ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Helis Oil said Monday that it will comply with a cease-and-desist order to stop its fracking effort on the north shore.

St. Tammany Parish issued the order after a ruling in Baton Rouge upheld parish zoning laws, prohibiting drilling in an area zoned residential. It reversed an earlier court ruling saying the state had the authority to grant the drilling permit.

Helis said the parish had no right to issue the cease-and-desist order, but the company agreed to halt the project while the issue is straightened out.
