NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Within a six hour period, five armed robberies were reported in New Orleans. The robberies spanned across five different neighborhoods Monday night and into Tuesday morning, according to initial reports from the New Orleans Police Department.
The first armed robbery was reported around 6:20 p.m. Monday in the Treme neighborhood. A gunman approached a 29-year-old woman and demanded her property, police say. The victim complied and handed over her purse and cell phone. The suspect fled the scene.
A second robbery was reported around 7:40 p.m. in the Lakeshore area along the lakefront. Police say that a 41-year-old man was sitting in his truck when he was approached by a group of men. The victim was pistol-whipped by the suspects who stole his truck and his belongings, according to police reports.
A third incident happened around 9:20 p.m. Monday near the Little Woods neighborhood of New Orleans East. Officers say that a 37-year-old man exited his vehicle in the 10300 block of Flossmoor Drive when he was approached by an unknown gunman. The suspect placed a gun to the victim's head and demanded his car keys, according to police. The victim complied and the suspect fled in the victim's vehicle.
Around 11:30 p.m. Monday, a fourth armed robbery was reported in the Warehouse District. Officers say that a 21-year-old woman was robbed of her purse by a gunman in the 300 block of N. Diamond Street. The gunman fled the scene.
A fifth incident was reported around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday in the Bywater area. The incident happened in the 3000 block of Dauphine Street. Officers say that a 42-year-old man was approached from the rear by a gunman. The suspect grabbed the victim's cellphone and wallet and fled the scene, police say.
