NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans police arrested a barber from eastern New Orleans who is accused of killing a mother and burning her body.

Thayon Samson, 30, was booked Monday with second-degree murder.

He appeared in Orleans Parish Magistrate Court Tuesday for his first hearing. A judge set bond at $2.5 million.

Investigators say he shot Lindsay Nichols, 31, put her in the trunk of a car and set it ablaze on Michoud Boulevard. She was last seen by her friends leaving a nightclub on Downman Road around 4 a.m. on June 21. Police believe she left the club to meet up with Samson.

Detectives were able to place Samson at the murder scene using cellphone data and DNA results from a pair of basketball shorts found inside the car, according to arrest documents obtained by Nola.com | The Times-Picayune

Witnesses and anonymous tipsters told detectives they saw someone matching Samson's description standing at the open trunk of Nichols' car around 7 a.m.

Samson lives less than a mile away from where the body was discovered, in the 13000 block of Chateau Court. He was arrested Monday at a tattoo shop in the 4100 block of Washington Avenue.
