NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Police are investigating a shooting in New Orleans East that killed a 17-year-old male and injured a 4-year-old boy Tuesday.
The shooting happened at about 2:30 p.m. at a home in the 5900 block of Boeing Street. When officers arrived they found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the head outside the home and a 4-year-old boy with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm inside the home.
The teen victim's grandmother told FOX 8 that her grandson was standing outside when two cars pulled up and people inside the cars began shooting. The teen victim, who was also armed, returned fire, and his grandmother said she thinks he hit at least one person in one of the cars.
Bullets also entered the home where the grandmother and the teen's aunt were visiting with the 4-year-old victim and other relatives. The boy was hospitalized. No one else in the home was injured.
The teen's aunt said her nephew carried a weapon for protection, and the shooting proves how dangerous she believes the neighborhood and New Orleans in general have become.
"This is not a safe city to me," Kat Morgan said. "I don't even feel comfortable here, you know? I just had lost someone, and this is closer to me that I won't see no more, and this is ridiculous."
