Police: Man pulls gun, robs cab driver in Algiers

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department is asking for help finding a man who robbed a cab driver at gunpoint in Algiers.

Police say the driver picked the man up on July 19 in the 5600 block of Tullis Drive. The victim drove the man to the intersection of Eliza Street and Whitney Avenue, where the man pulled out a grayish-black handgun and demanded money. The cab driver handed over cash and the suspect fled on foot.

The victim described the gunman as having a dark complexion, small muscular build, about 5'9" tall and about 28 years old. He was wearing blue jeans with a brown belt, a straw hat and was carrying a green backpack with black stripes. Based on the description, police developed a composite image of what the perpetrator may look like.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
