NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A 13-year-old boy accused of a sexual assault on a seven-year-old girl has also been connected to the sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl.

The two girls were lured away from their homes and raped by the boy within 10 days of each other, according to police.

The first rape happened July 1 at the Hidden Lakes Apartment complex on Martin Drive in New Orleans East, where Investigators say a seven-year-old girl was lured away and sexually assaulted. Less than two weeks later, and just a mile away, there was another attack that was eerily similar to the first.

Police said the suspect lured an eight-year-old girl from the Magnolia Gardens Apartments on Downman Road and raped her in an alley.

The boy was arrested on July 10.

NOPD investigators did not initially believe the two investigations were related based on descriptions given by the children involved. However, police linked the cases based on DNA evidence.

Detectives are drafting a warrant and plan to rebook the juvenile on the crime this week.
