THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Police are searching for a person of interest in a triple shooting that left one man dead and two more injured.
Thibodaux Police are asking the community to help them find Jordan Williams, now wanted for questioning in connection with the murder.
Police say the shooting happened around 9 pm Tuesday on Sanders Street near the St. Charles Manor Apartments.
Witnesses said a man pulled up in a car and opened fire on a group of people standing outside the apartments.
Police say Derrick Reed, 34, was killed after he was shot multiple times in the head.
"I was coming out the house, I was about to come right here and I heard someone shooting and I ran," Jamin Bascom, Reed's 15-year old nephew, said. "But I knew my uncle was out here, everybody came from back here, so I ran and I saw him laying on the ground, and I went to hold him."
Family members called Reed a loved member of the community who was planning to go back to school to become a minister.
"To know that my brother will not live to see the age of 35 hurts me. He was on his phone, minding his own business, he didn't know what was going on...an innocent bystander," Cordella Reed, the victim's sister, said.
The two other people shot were listed in stable condition, but family members say several children were in the area when gunfire broke out.
"They're cowardly, they're cowardly, because if you know who you want, go out and get them, you don't involve other people in your mess, your drama, your B.S.," Reed said.
Now the teen who tried to help save his uncle is left feeling less secure, but clinging to his uncle's dying words.
"He told me loved me, that was the last thing he said and that was it," Bascom said.
Family members are planning a vigil Wednesday at 7 pm outside of the apartment complex in Thibodaux.
Police ask anyone with information on Jordan Williams to contact investigators.
