Two teens arrested driving stolen car

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police arrested an 18-year-old and 15-year-old after catching them driving a car stolen from just outside the French Quarter.

According to NOPD, officers pulled over a white Volvo SUV near the intersection of North Rampart and Conti Streets around 11 p.m. after noticing the passenger-side window had been smashed in. Dartania Mixon, 18, was driving the vehicle along with a 15-year-old male passenger.

When detectives approached the vehicle, Mixon attempted to put the car in reverse and drive away. However, officers managed to reach inside the window and turn off the car's engine. Officers then spotted a shotgun in the back seat and immediately took the two teens into custody.

Detectives located the SUV's owner, who told them that he parked his car in the 1300 block of St. Philip Street, where it was stolen. Police say the man didn't recognize the two suspects or the shotgun found in the car.

Police booked Mixon into Central Lock-up and charged him with Auto Theft, Illegal Possession of Stolen Property, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile and Criminal Damage to Property.

The 15-year-old boy was booked into the Juvenile Division and charged with Auto Theft, Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Damage to Property.
