NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans Police arrested an NOPD officer for driving while intoxicated. Thomas Ripp, 31, was taken into custody following a car crash. The incident occurred Sunday around 5:40 a.m. at the intersection of Robert E. Lee Boulevard and Dove Street.

Police say that Ripp was driving his un-marked police vehicle east on Robert E. Lee Blvd. When he approached the intersection of Dove St., Ripp hit the curb and crashed his vehicle into a cement light pole. He was given a post-accident test which showed that he tested positive for alcohol and was over the legal limit.

Ripp was brought to a local hospital to receive treatment prior to being arrested. The NOPD Public Integrity Bureau then placed Ripp on emergency suspension. According to police, Ripp, an eight-year veteran of the force, recently transferred to the homicide division.
