AFR: 4 questions surrounding Saints training camp

1.) Who are these guys?

Not since 2006 has their been such a sense of mystery surrounding the Sean Payton-led Saints. We just don't know how good they're going to be. And given what happened last year, no one feels comfortable projecting it.

This team feels just as close to 10-6 as they do to 6-10.

The NFC South is definitely attainable, but the truth is no one knows if the Saints will be the team to take it.

2.) Will the secondary be improved?

There was no bigger tangible problem on the entire team last year than the much maligned secondary. The lack of a legitimate cornerback opposite Keenan Lewis completely altered everything they wanted to do. Banking on Champ Bailey turned out to really come back to bite them.

The Saints made sure to not themselves that vulnerable ever again. They brought in Brandon Browner who instantly brings credibility and respect. Plus, they drafted two corners and signed Kyle Wilson.

Add that to the healthy return of Jairus Byrd and the Saints are hoping this years defensive backfield will be the most improved unit on the field this season.

3.) How will the vibe be at the Greenbrier?

Once the losses mounted, the criticism started coming about their training camp at the luxurious resort.

Did it back them soft? Did it give them a sense of entitlement?

I'm on record as saying I watched some of the best training camp practices I've ever seen at the Greenbrier, but I can understand the perception.

Despite what they may say publicly, the Saints understand it too. So I'll  be curious to see how they tweak the routine to shake the '5 star' image.

4.) Who becomes the premiere pass rusher with Junior Galette gone?

"Who else do they have?" Galette told Evan Woodbury after getting released.

Fair question, though it didn't come across that way in the interview.

The truth is the Saints will now have to rely on veterans Parys Haralson and Anthony Spencer, and rookies Hau'Oli Kikaha and Davis Tull to take over.

I like Kikaha's chances to become a big time player, but this will be a major storyline until someone emerges.
