Louisiana State Police are leading the investigation into the fatal shooting of a man by law enforcement officers. Houma Police and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office were assisting.

The shooting happened on Woodlawn Ranch Road near Highway 56 following the pursuit of a theft suspect by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, Houma Police and LSP Troop C.

Officers used a tire-deflation device on the suspect's vehicle, bringing it to a stop on Woodlawn Ranch Road. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the officers, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. Nick Manale. One or more of the officers then shot and killed him.

Police describe the suspect as a white man in his 40s. His identity was not released. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene. Authorities did not release the identity of the officer who shot the man.
