NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Fire Department Fourth District Chief has been monitoring a marsh fire in New Orleans East since Friday, according to an NOFD news release.

The fire has intensified somewhat and there is a light haze of smoke on Highway 11 between the levee and the merger for Interstate 10.

The fire is 1 ½ miles south of I-10 between Irish Bayou and the lake on private land, and is inaccessible to land-based fire units or the fireboat.

The Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development plan to post signage along I-10 and at Chef Menteur Highway and Highway 11 exits to warn motorists of the haze in the area.

The New Orleans Fire Department is closely monitoring this fire for any changes and will continue to update the public as needed.
