NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The body of a missing swimmer was found floating in the Mississippi River.
The body was found around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday near St. Peter and Decatur streets and retrieved by the New Orleans Fire Department.
Police have identified the victim as 42-year-old Dave Hebron, the man who disappeared Tuesday evening while swimming in the river. Hebron was last seen swimming near Jax Brewery. He went under and never resurfaces, according to witnesses.
At the time of his disappearance, the river was high with swift currents, according to the Coast Guard.
Hebron's mother told police that he had recently traveled to New Orleans from Jena, Louisiana and that he had been staying at a local homeless shelter.
The coroner's office told detectives Hebron's death has been ruled a drowning.
