As far as first practices go, Saints veterans seemed more than eager to fully put a 7-9 season behind them and begin anew, starting with Drew Brees.

"First day was good, everybody is excited to get back out there start moving around," he said.

Running back Mark Ingram inked a four-year deal with the club in March and is back to work to prove his second contract with the Saints was a worthy investment.

"Just good to be back with the team good to be back to work," Ingram said. "First day always an important day it sets the tone."

The rain was the team's biggest issue for about the first 45 minutes of practice, a challenge tight end Benjamin Watson summed up simply.

"Football players don't really like the rain. We get all wet in the rain and have to deal with it and play in it," he said.

The Saints have seven players on the roster with 10 or more years of experience in the NFL, of course led by 15-year veteran Drew Brees. All of these players agreed the first day of training camp has them feeling like a rookie again, including 10-year vet Zach Strief.

"It's always good, it's exciting," Strief said. "I think you get camp jitters no matter how long you've done it. You get nervous energy leading up to it."

The first of many practices is in the books and the preseason opener on Aug. 13 is now less than two weeks away.
