NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - While Junior Galette visits the Washington Redskins, in hopes of catching on with a new team, the Saints are moving on without him. \
Camp began Thursday at the Greenbrier in West Virginia and it was all eyes on the outside pass rush specialists, especially for right tackle Zach Strief "There are a lot of guys, people want to know right away 'is he going to replace a spot or production?' For some of the guys, it's just not fair right now," Strief said.
Veterans Cam Jordan and Anthony Spencer will get the first shot at replacing Galette. It will be a bit of a positional change for Jordan, who will play the Jack linebacker, according to coach Sean Payton.
"We felt like some of his best production has come obviously when we're in sub," Payton said. "He's an outside player but I think he is an outstanding player I think his versatility is a plus."
Jordan has traditionally lined up in a three-point stance on the line of scrimmage, but began experimenting with the new position this off-season.
"We went to OTA's and I was flexing out of that position," Jordan said. "Playing a Jack is something that's going to be new to me but at the same time a lot of similarities to what I've been doing, it's not like it's going to be too much of a real change for me."
As for Spencer, his nine years in the league makes him the most experienced of the team's outside linebackers. He's going to get a fair look, according to Payton. "He is a guy we feel like can be a pressure player," Payton said.
Eventually, Payton would like to settle on one guy -- a dependable player that can give them as much, if not more, than what Junior gave them. "You want players that know what to do and can do it well," Payton said. "The best players will play."
