(WVUE) - Louisiana State Police want parents to make a safety a priority at all times, even during quick errand runs with kids in the car.
They say unintentional injuries from car crashes are the leading cause of death in children. Police say parents can take life-saving steps by using booster seats that can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent. An event takes place tomorrow from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clearview Mall in Metairie, where parents can pick up a free booster seat and learn more about safety. Certified technicians will be on hand to give advice on finding the appropriate seat for each child's age.
In a press release, the free booster seats will be given to children meeting the following height and weight criteria:
- Child must be 40-100 pounds and 40-57 inches tall.
