Body recovered From Miss. River near Scarsdale ferry landing

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A body was recovered Friday in the Mississippi River near river mile marker 76, according to Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Lonnie Greco.

At about 7:20 a.m., the Plaquemines Pride Ferry captain reported seeing a body floating near the Scarsdale Ferry landing on the east bank of the river, which is located directly across the river from Belle Chasse.

Crew members aboard the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District vessel Port Authority responded and pulled the body from the water.  The body was released to investigators with the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office.

The body has been positively identified the body through fingerprints, but the identity is being withheld until family members are notified.

The body is believed to have been in the river for two days and did not have any visible signs of trauma.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine an official cause and manner of death.
