In 2014, the Saints provided a pounding combination at running back with Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson. In 2015, C.J. Spiller makes the unit downright scary, according to head coach Sean Payton.

"I think he is a quick study. He seems to have picked things up real well. We will begin to expand just with our installation just with what we feel like he is going to do. I thought he had a good first practice," Payton said.

Last year there was a glaring lack of receptions by running backs after trading Darren Sproles, but Spiller solves that problem in Payton's mind.

"He catches the ball out of the backfield," he said. "If we could get him in space, he's dangerous, very explosive so he gives you some versatility that way.  I think trying to get him in those types of matchups in space (are important to utilizing him). I think it plays to his strengths."

For his career, Spiller has 12 rushing touchdowns and six receiving scores, numbers representative of the approach he has.

"I just say you've got to take advantage of every opportunity that you get. It can be through touches, it can be 20," Spiller said. "But if you don't do anything with either one, what difference does it make? That's always been my mindset since my coach at a young age used to preach to me to take advantage of every opportunity."
