Morten Andersen selected for Saints Ring of Honor

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Morten Andersen will be added to the Saints Ring of Honor, head coach Sean Payton announced Monday.

Andersen is a legendary kicker who spent 13-seasons with the Saints from 1982-1994. He is the franchise leader in points scored with 1,318.

During Monday's announcement, Payton argued that Andersen should also belong to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He's the NFL all-time record holder for games played (382), points scored (2,544) and field goals made (565).

Andersen was visiting the Greenbrier Monday when the announcement was made. He said that when he enters the Hall, he wants to be entered as a Saint.

Andersen will join Ricky Jackson, Archie Manning and Willie Roaf in Saints Ring of Honor this fall. Established in 2013, the New Orleans Saints Ring of Honor recognizes former players, administrators and individuals who have played a significant role both on-the-field and off-the-field in the franchise's history and is displayed prominently along the Mercedes-Benz Superdome's terrace level fascia.
