Residents in parts of St. Tammany to experience low water pressure as lines are flushed

Over the next two evenings, Tammany Utilities will be flushing the water mains in the Ozone Park, Tall Timbers, Westwood, Carriage Lane, Chinchuba and Forest Park areas.

Tammany Utilities customers living in these areas can expect to experience low water pressure when flushing is initiated. Flushing will begin at approximately 9 p.m on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.  If you are not a Tammany Utilities customer, this does not apply.

Tammany Utilities flushes the water lines on an annual basis for the following reasons:

  • To maintain good quality water.  Over time, naturally occurring minerals accumulate on the interior of our pipes.  Flushing scours the pipe and removes these deposits.
  • To provide required fire flow data to the Fire Department.  While flushing, Tammany Utilities personnel measure and record the fire flow data at each hydrant.  This data is then given to the Fire Department who then uses the data to calculate fire insurance ratings for the area.
  • To ensure that all fire hydrants are in good working order.
