LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) -

Two St. James Parish medics helped save a little puppy's life after noticing she was wounded, lying on the side of the road.

Acadian Ambulance paramedic Brittany Caughlin and EMT Helmuth Rousseve were recently driving back to their station in LaPlace, when they saw the dog. They pulled over and alerted dispatch of the discovery.

Caughlin carefully picked up the frightened dog and noticed her leg was badly injured.

Helmuth quickly called animal control while Caughlin cradled and comforted the dog.

Animal control brought the dog to vet, who ruled it was possibly attacked by another animal. It was taken into surgery where her leg was patched up.

“It was obvious she had been there for quite some time and needed to get medical help ASAP,” Caughlin said. “We have grown very attached to her and I am just happy we were there to help her.”

The dog is recovering and will likely be adopted by Rousseve if her owner is not found.
