Kenner man killed, passenger injured after car rear-ends tow truck

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - A 25-year-old Kenner man was killed Thursday after his car rear-ended a tow truck in Metairie, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The driver, Timothy Arabi, was pronounced dead on the scene. The accident happened at about 5:35 p.m. in the 100 block of Veterans Boulevard.

Witnesses told investigators that Arabi was seen abruptly changing lanes in his Nissan Altima before he struck the rear of a 1997 International Tow Truck being driven by a 53 year-old New Orleans man. The tow truck was stopped in the center lane due to traffic waiting for the red light to change at the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and Lake Avenue.

A 25-year-old Metairie woman who was a passenger in the Nissan was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital with minor injuries.

While conducting his investigation, Fatality Investigator Anthony Cannatella received word from an anonymous witness that Arabi was seen throwing a small black object into the bushes on the side of Veterans Boulevard moments before the accident. A search of the area turned up a small coin purse containing several hypodermic needles, two spoons, a lighter and an empty bottle of super glue, according to the Sheriff's Office. Crime scene technicians recovered the items for further processing.

An autopsy will be performed by the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
