NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A fatal shooting and two “suspicious” fires are under investigation in the 7th Ward. The two fires and the deadly shooting were reported within hours of each other and at a close proximity.

New Orleans fire investigators said two separate fires that broke out within an hour and within blocks of each other appear suspicious. The first fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. Thursday at an abandoned house in the 1700 block of Marigny Street. That fire spread to a nearby, recently renovated structure. Both building sustained heavy damage, firefighters said.

The second fire - also in an abandoned home – broke out around 8:35 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Derbigny Street. The second fire happened just two blocks away. That fire damaged two additional homes nearby, and all three are a complete loss, said NOFD Superintendent Tim McConnell.

No one was injured in either of the fires.

A Thursday night fatal shooting is also under investigation in the 7th Ward.

A 27-year-old man was gunned down around 10 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Robertson Street.

Officers arriving on the scene found the victim lying on the sidewalk next to a white Chevy Impala, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim has not been released. The investigation is on-going and detectives are investigating to determine a motive and suspect(s) in the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
