Crime drops in Jefferson Parish

GRETNA, LA (WVUE) -

New statistics show crime is on the decline in Jefferson parish, with the biggest drop reported in the number of murders.  The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says there have been 13 murders so far this year, compared to 25 this same time a year ago.   That's a drop of 48-percent.

There were also significant drops in the number of robberies and burglaries.  The JPSO says there were 182 robberies so far this year, compared to 246 last year, a 26-percent drop. Burglaries are down more then 22-percent from last year.  There have been 865 burglaries compared to 1,117 the year before.

Rapes, auto thefts and raped were also down.  The only category where crime is on the rise is assaults, which are up 21-percent.  The sheriff's office received 590 reports of assaults, down from 487 from the first six months of 2014.

The numbers include crimes that happened from January through June,
