THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Police arrested one of the men they believe killed a Thibodaux man and injured two others in a drive-by shooting in July.
Brian Gibson, 22, is being held on one charge of Second Degree Murder and five counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder. Police obtained arrest warrants for both Gibson and his alleged accomplice, Jordan Williams, after the murder of 34-year-old Derrick Reed in a drive-by shooting.
Police say the shooting happened around 9 pm July 21 on Sanders Street near the St. Charles Manor Apartments.
Witnesses said a man pulled up in a car and opened fire on a group of people, including Reed, standing outside the apartments.
Police say Reed was shot multiple times in the head. Two people were non-fatally injured in the shooting and several others were in the line of fire.
Family members called Reed a loved member of the community who was planning to go back to school to become a minister.
"To know that my brother will not live to see the age of 35 hurts me. He was on his phone, minding his own business, he didn't know what was going on...an innocent bystander," Cordella Reed, the victim's sister, said. "They're cowardly, they're cowardly, because if you know who you want, go out and get them, you don't involve other people in your mess, your drama, your B.S."
Police are still searching for another suspect in the case. Jordan Williams is facing the same charges as Gibson. He is described as a black male, about 6'1" tall, weighing about 145 lbs. with multiple tattoos on his arms, chest, neck and face. Police said he recently cut off his dreadlocks and has a very short haircut.
Anyone with information on Williams' location is asked to call Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
